SPCC Finally Friday LO

7/31/2009 11:44:00 PM Posted In Edit This 4 Comments »

This LO was created for SPCC Finally Friday Challenge. Our friend Beverley created this week's challenge which was based on a photo. She created a lovely card using the same colors and design elements. I love the pink, blue, kraft, white, and green, and I used them to show off my beautiful grandchildren. While Beverley's photo displays simple clean lines, I chose a bit more flourish. The blue cardstock is Bazzill Bling, which gives a little shimmer. I hope that you like my LO, and I really hope that you'll check out SPCC for some really fun challenges!

Celebrate (SPCC #8 and Sketch 80)

I've joined the group of those who combine challenges (although, I am a fledgling - only 2 challenges). This little card has the colors of SPCC Combo #8, from Sam's awesome challenge blog. It was a bit of a challenge for me to combine the colors. Check out her blog and take the plunge into the color combo challenges. It is so much fun and there are awesome prizes! I also used Heather's Sketch 80. Heather does some amazing cards and other projects. She has a card sketch every week (and has been doing it for 80 weeks!).
About this card: CS is from Stampin' Up, as is the Sizzix Top Notes die. The pattern paper is from Autumn Leaves (I used a scrap to make the flower). The stamp is from TAC, with VersaColor black ink. The stitching was done with Bic Mark-It.

SPCC #7 - Birthday Boy

If you haven't yet checked out Samantha's Scrapmaster's Paradise Color Combo, you are missing out on some serious fun! Every week, she posts a new color combo to challenge our creativity. Oh, and did I mention the fabulous prizes? This week's winner receives a wonderful assortment of Elmer's glue and paint products (and what scrapper ever has enough adhesive).
My entry (my first as an SP Diva) uses the following products: CS: SU Summer Sun and SU Old Olive; Paper: Autumn Leaves Mod; Stamps: SU Birthday Whimsy and Scrappy Cat; Ribbon: Ribbon FX; Ink: Versa Marker, VersaMagic Chalk Ink (Turquoise Gem), SU Certainly Celery, and Colorbox Chalk (Yellow Citrus); Marker: Zig Metallic; Punches: SU Scallop Circle and SU Scallop Border.
I put the balloons on with dimensional dots, but the photo doesn't show that.

I just can't believe it yet! I have been chosen to be an SP Diva! That's right - I am a member of a design team! Let me tell you about SPCC, in case you don't know about it. SPCC is Scrapmasters Paradise Color Combo . Every week Samantha (more about her later) posts a a combo of three or four colors and challenges everyone to come up with a card, LO, or altered item using those colors. And what amazing things everyone comes up with each week! It is now only week 7, and there are already so many participants! It was my first attempt at a challenge and I am hooked!
Oh, and did I mention the fabulous prizes each week? Samantha has lined up so many amazing sponsors. And even if you don't win (I haven't) you still get to display a cool blinkie that says how much you love the challenge. I even made the top 5 once, so I got another blinkie! If you haven't tried the challenge yet - what are you waiting for?
Let me tell you about Samantha. She is the Energizer Bunny of scrapbooking! In addition to SPCC, she has her own blog Scrapmaster's Paradise . Every day she posts challenges, tutorials, and inspiration. She has been my mentor and really encouraged me to set up my own blog. She is such a genuine, positive, sweet girl, and I am so honored (and humbled) that she selected me to be among such esteemed company! I am excited for the opportunity to try new things and to share what I am so passionate about.

Thinking of you

This card was made to fit two different challenges. The colors were selected by my friend Samantha at Scrapmaster's Paradise for her Color Challenge.

I don't have Rich Razzleberry yet, so I substituted for it.
The other challenge is from my friend Heather at Oz-Some Stamps for her weekly card sketch challenge (this is last week's sketch - http://stampez.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/06/monday-sketches-its-back.html).
The pattern paper is SU Urban Garden (a favorite). The stamps are TAC's Swirly Gigs and SU's Bird on a Branch (the sentiment).
If you haven't checked out either of these blogs, you are really missing out!

Another Kind of Contest

I entered a contest at AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) to win a new car. To enter, you must own a real clunker, and send a photo and 100 words or less (creativity counts) to justify why you should win. Here is my entry "essay" to accompany my photo. Pretty bad, huh?

Give "Props" to the Seats

The once-proud 'Burb has seen better days,
Passengers duck as the headliner sags.
The dry-rot above it showers the riders,
With crumbling foam padding that feels much like spiders.

Give "props" to the threadbare, broken-backed seats;
Or bend over backward in the King of the fleet.
The steering column is loose and wobbles about.
The finish is faded, both inside and out.

The body itself is a love's labor, quaint.
Rust held together with splotches of paint.
Three hundred thousand miles it's gone.
Not sure if it'll make it through to the dawn.

Monkey Business

This birthday card is for my dh, whose birthday is later this week (shhh, don't tell him). I know, it's a silly little card, but we're in our 50's, so we do whatever it takes to feel young and fun! This card uses my version of Samantha's SPCC challenge (I don't have the new In Colors...yet!). The blue and pink CS are from Making Memories Polo Club collection. The adorable monkey stamps are from The Angel Company. I love this stamp set! I stamped the monkeys on light brown CS and cut them out. The little overalls were stamped on the same blue and pink CS. I colored the ballons with Bic markers.

SPCC Challenge

This layout was created for Scrapmaster's Paradise Color Combo Challenge. I love the green, pink, and yellow combination, but didn't know what I wanted to do with it. I finally decided to create a tribute to my beloved Izzy. We adopted Izzy from our local animal shelter, or rather, he adopted us. He was 13 when we brought him home. We had three wonderful years with him, before he died a year ago. We really miss him!
The layout uses various papers that I had around. I used the SU Sizzix Top Note Die for the feature picture and the journaling. The butterflies were created using Art Accentz Stickees and Art Glitter. I then cut each one out and bent them for dimension (I've had the Stickeez and glitter for quite awhile, but hadn't used them). The ribbon was from the dollar spot at Target.
If you haven't visited the SPCC website, you really should. The challenges are fun and the other entries are wonderful to check out!
